Not too much wheat, not too much white. This bread is the perfect combination of wheat and white. It makes the such a soft pieces of bread that is delicious as toast, sandwich bread, french toast or even just a slice of bread, butter, and jam. It's not too complicated and in just a couple hours, you'll have the smell of fresh bread filling your home!
WHITE BREAD
makes three - 8x4 loaves
INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup Sugar (honey can be used as well)
3 cups warm Water
1 1/2 Tbsp Yeast
1/3 cup Oil
1 Egg
1 Tbsp Salt
2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
7 cups White Flour
INSTRUCTIONS:
Combine sugar, warm water, and yeast in a large mixing bowl.
Let stand for 10 minutes to froth.
Add oil, egg, and salt into yeast mixture.
Add whole wheat flour, and mix.
Add white flour, one cup at a time, mixing in between.
Knead for 5 minutes until the dough is smooth and soft. Add additional flour if the dough is too sticky.
Cover dough with a clean dish towel and allow it to rise until doubled, about 45 minutes.
Punch the dough down.
Allow to rise for a second time, covered, for 30 – 45 minutes.
Separate dough into 3 equal sections.
Shape each piece into a loaf and place in a greased 8x4 loaf pan.
Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise for 30 minutes, meanwhile preheating the oven to 375°F.
Bake for 23-25 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
Take out of loaf pans and brush the tops with a cold stick of butter.
Let cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
