Naan Bread

We often joke about this bread saying "It's NAAN of your bread!". But with this recipe, everyone can have their own Naan Bread!

GARLIC NAAN

makes 12 naans

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup warm Water

  • 1 Tbsp Sugar

  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) Yeast

  • 3/4 cup warm milk

  • 3/4 cup Plain Yogurt OR plain Greek Yogurt

  • 4 cups All-purpose Flour

  • 1 tsp Kosher Salt

  • 3/4 stick melted Butter, for brushing

  • 4 cloves minced Garlic

  • Dried or Fresh Parsley for color.

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. In a glass measuring cup, combine the yeast, sugar, and water and let sit until very foamy, about 10 minutes.

  2. Meanwhile, whisk the flour and salt together in a large bowl and create a well in the center.

  3. Whisk in the warm milk and plain yogurt into the yeast mixture until well-combined. Pour into the well in the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough is formed then knead until smooth, about 3-4 minutes.

  4. Place in lightly oiled bowl and cover loosely with a damp kitchen towel to rise at room temperature until doubled, about 1 hour.

  5. Turn onto lightly floured surface and knead into a disc and cut the dough into 12 equal-sized pieces.

  6. Roll each piece into a ball.

  7. Melt butter in bowl and add garlic and parsley.

  8. Heat a large, heavy bottomed skillet over medium heat.

  9. Roll each dough ball out until it is about 1/4 inch thick and approximately 6 inches wide.

  10. Brush the dough lightly with the garlic butter mixture and place one at a time onto the hot skillet.

  11. Cook until large bubbles form on the surface, about 2 minutes. Flip the dough, brush with butter mixture and cook the other side until golden, about 1-2 more minutes.

  12. Stack the cooked bread on a plate and cover with a towel to keep warm as you cook the remaining pieces. Serve warm.
